Hello! I’m Leslee and I’m so excited about being nominated for member of the month at CFB! I’ve had quite the journey so far with Crossfit and I can’t wait to see where I go with it.
- Age and Occupation?
I’m 24, a graduate from the University of Michigan (go blue!), and I returned home to the metro Detroit area to work as a teacher. I’m currently with Waterford as an elementary Spanish teacher, and I also teach ESL. I love teaching – my students are wonderful and it’s so rewarding to work with them.
- How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started Crossfit last May (2014) on a complete whim when I saw a groupon for CFB. I’ve tried to come and work out as consistently as possible ever since.
- Why do you CrossFit?
I appreciated the sense of community that was clear at CFB, and how helpful and inspiring all of the coaches were (and still are). I’ve always tried to maintain an active lifestyle and found myself trying different activities in the past- running, yoga, even a brief Barre stint – but the constant variation and increasing challenge is certainly working best for me. I can finally see my shoulder muscles!
- What is your favorite movement?
Movements I like – squatting, dead lifts, knees to elbows, hand stand push-ups (I have some work to do on those), and wall ball sit ups. I’m also a big believer in planking.
- What is your least favorite movement?
Movements that are “coming along” – rowing. I could say that my shortness hinders how efficiently I row, but I know with time I’ll get better. No excuses. Also, burpees, because burpees.
- Do you follow a particular diet to fuel your training? Favorite foods?
I feel very strongly about eating well. I do my best to eat good, whole foods, like lots of fruits and veggies. At the beginning of the new year, my family and I started following the paleo diet, though we’re strict 5 or 6 days of the week. I’m also a foodie (and craft beer lover) at heart, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with enjoying what you like in moderation.
- What are your short term goals?
Get better at double unders. Increase my 1RMs. Do a strict pull up. Get a rope climb – all the way!
- What are your long term goals?
Look and feel better. I know I’m already getting there, but I have to keep on working.
- What is your biggest achievement at CFB?
I’m going to keep on with Crossfit because I’m seeing results. Never before in previous activities or routines have I progressed like I am now. I have fun challenging myself and working hard each time I come in. In fact, I feel so motivated at CFB that I have no problem dedicating a good amount of time to working out, even with managing the crazy/rewarding lifestyle of a first-year teacher. I will always continue to push myself at CFB – I’m even considering signing up for the Open. I know with this, I will get better, and I will happily continue talking about it nonstop with my friends
- If there was a WOD named after you, what would it be?
