Turmeric tea, often labelled ‘Golden Milk’, is a wonderfully warming, slightly spicy and sweet beverage, containing a host of ingredients that are praised for their health benefits. Here’s a quick rundown of the ingredients list and their uses as natural remedies.
Turmeric is lauded for it’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties. Researchers have begun to examine the effects it is said to have on cancer, slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Its medicinal values are yet to be confirmed, but it has long been used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, to treat digestive issues, liver problems, arthritis and inflammation, among others.
Ginger is often used to treat nausea and vomiting, as well as the symptoms of the common cold. It is also shown to reduce pain and inflammation, and stimulate circulation. Cayenne boosts the metabolism and suppresses appetite, and contains the pain relieving compounds, capsaicin.
Coconut oil is mostly made up of medium-chain fatty acids, which go straight to your liver to be converted into energy, rather than be stored as fat. It can aid weight loss and prevent energy slumps, as well as promoting healthy thyroid function and increasing metabolic rate.
The best thing about Golden Milk? It’s delicious and a perfect substitute for when you feel like a cup of hot chocolate.
